Finding Wonder
Scripture: Luke 5:26
I’ve talked with a LOT of people over the last couple of weeks and have had some amazing conversations! Hearing about how people have attempted to make some delicious homemade meals only to end up ordering pizza, hearing my age 20 something friends say they’ve pulled out their coloring books, and hearing that all the pets have loved all the attention they’ve been receiving. It’s been so fun to hear all the hilarious stories and good times people have been having!
It’s those little moments of joy, fun, laughter…..wonder, that I want us to focus on. Because right now you might find yourself bored at home, you’ve already watched Frozen 10 times, somehow you made it through your list of Pinterest crafts, you’ve checked off all your home projects, and life just kinda feels “meh”. How do you get that sense of wonder back? That feeling of experiencing something truly amazing?
In the book of Luke we read, “And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, ‘We have seen extraordinary things today.’” (Luke 5:26) This is coming right after Jesus has healed a person suffering from leprosy and a person who had been paralyzed. Those are some pretty incredible things without a doubt, but I believe God also works in the little moments in life. In our day to day, the simple things that we often are going too fast or are too busy to notice.
God’s been slowing me down lately. I’ve been working from home, which means when I need to “leave the office” I go for a walk around my house. I’ve seen beautiful flowers still growing, for the first time in a while I hear birds singing, I’ve gotten to laugh with my neighbors as we look across the street and see a guy walking his pet pig, I’ve gotten to have conversations about faith with friends who normally wouldn’t talk about it. And it’s in these moments I’ve been left in awe and wonder of how God still shows up. He still shows up. He’s still doing the extraordinary things that leave me amazed and glorifying Him.
So my encouragement to you is, be willing to slow down, be willing to notice the little things. The moments where God is trying to tell you “I’m still there, I’m still working in amazing ways.” Let’s be in awe and wonder that despite whatever circumstances we face, God still shows up.
Prayer: Take time to notice the little things throughout your day, pray and thank God for those. And if you can’t honestly name anything, pray for God to show up, pray for him to step into your daily life, to help you slow down and notice the ways He is working.
