Come to Me

Scripture: Matthew 11:25-30

Asking for help isn’t something that I do well with. My husband often tells me to ask for help, but for some reason, I think I don’t need it. Yet every time I ask for help, I’m rarely disappointed, especially when it comes to doing the dishes or getting up with the kids in the middle of the night.

Jesus gives us such a sweet request in Matthew 11 when He says, “Come to me...” This is an open invitation; we don’t have to have it together. Jesus is asking us to come to Him with our weary and heavy burdens. Accept His invitation and go!

Why should we go to Him? So, we can learn from Him (Matthew 11:29). When we spend our time with God, learning from Him our mindset is transformed (Romans 12:2). Jeremiah 6:16 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” The way of the Lord is where true rest will come. When we chose to walk the unpopular path, when we chose to walk in obedience to God, there is an internal peace that happens “...rest for your souls...”. This is deep inner rest. Where true peace and joy is found.

Let’s accept Jesus’ invitation and go to Him. When we do, we will learn what true rest is!

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, that you accept me as I am. Thank you for giving me rest, as I can come to you with my weary heart and heavy burdens.  Help me have a heart that is willing to learn and be transformed by you. Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saved me. All-day long I put my hope in you.”
