Known
Bible: Psalm 139
Vulnerability. Tough word to say, probably even tougher to live out. To actually open up and let people into your life, and not just into the good parts, but specifically the complicated parts. Your passions, your hurts, your fears, your past, your feelings…the parts of your life that you can’t see on the outside. The parts of your life that very few ever even get a glimpse into.
Yet, each of us crave to be known. We want people to see us for who we truly are, and yet we fear people knowing who we truly are. Will they accept us? Will they leave us? Will they embrace who we are or just walk away? Are those complicated parts of our life too…complicated?
Do you remember your first time at a new school and trying to make new friends? I remember when I first went off to college, and randomly got assigned two other roommates. We didn’t know anything about one another besides what you could find out on Facebook and now we’re living together. So there was the usual awkwardness the first few days. Not sure what to say or what the other guys would want to do, but you’re stuck in a small dorm room together so you kinda feel forced to talk.
I specifically remember when my roommate Zac (yeah, same name) decided to break the ice and he asked us what we were most excited about and most nervous about for college. Super simple question, but it was the beginning of us truly getting to know each other. And over the next 4 years, these two guys became my best friends. We were there for one another through everything - family issues, breakups, school trouble, loss of loved ones, and so much more. These guys knew when I was hurting, and weren’t afraid to ask me about it. They knew my flaws and yet, they still embraced me.
It’s just a small glimpse into the love of our God. Psalm 139:1-4, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.”
God knows every part of you, whether you want him too or not. But what amazes me is that he knows every thought, every word, every misstep and yet He loves us unconditionally. We are fully known and fully loved. Below is one of my all time favorite reading plans on the Bible app, I encourage you to give it a read.

Prayer: Open up to God about your struggles, your fears, your sin. Let him know you want to be closer to him. Thank Him for His forgiveness and for His love.
