Perspective

Scripture: Psalm 121

As a mom, having play dates, school, and all extra activities cancelled left me wondering how I was going to keep my sanity. My kid's energy never seems to run out, they are bored, enjoy annoying each other, and fill in the blank with all the other frustrating things kids tend to do, like play with poop.

It’s easy for me to look at the list above and become annoyed, angry, and frustrated with my kids. Or look at what is happening in our world and become fearful and anxious. I can look at our finances and worry about our future. Or look at our diminishing toilet paper roll and become concerned.

But, as I read Psalm 121, I am reminded on the importance of where I look. “I look up to the mountains, does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth!” If I choose to look to the Lord, the one who “watches over me...stands beside me...” How can I stay annoyed, angry, frustrated, fearful, anxious, or worried? He created this world, my kids, and given me resources. The Almighty God chooses to stand beside me. I want to look to Him for my perspective. Does this mean as I look to God that I don’t struggle with these negative thoughts and emotions? No, I still do. But when I do, I remind myself to look to Jesus by praying, reading the Bible, and worshipping.

As we choose to look to Jesus, He gives us a new perspective that changes how we live. I can use this extra hibernation time to make memories with my kids, not just survive. Instead of being anxious, I can bring love and encouragement to my neighbors during this fearful time. And as the future looks uncertain, this provides opportunity for my faith to grow. As for the toilet paper, there are plenty of memes to create some good laughter!

Prayer: Jesus thank you for watching over me and standing beside me. Please help show me where I am allowing my negative thoughts and emotions to control my actions. Help me to refocus on you today.
