Dealing With Worry

Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34

We worry. I worry. Jesus knows we worry. I don’t know about you, but COVID-19 has heavily impacted my worrying. This situation is completely overwhelming. Every day changes Personally, I’m worried about you. Some of you are hurting, lost, confused, and struggling with an unpredictable and unknown future. All of us are looking for ways to bring hope to a desperate situation.

Jesus knows what we all are up against. He knows that WORRY highlights what we believe about God. Jesus tells us that when we worry, we say to God that He does not provide and doesn’t care.

When we stress over success and status, we say that success is more important than the FINISHED work on the cross. When we worry about our reputation, we proclaim that our need to be approved and accepted comes from people and not God.

When we fear tomorrow, we acknowledge that we truly don’t see God as going ahead of us, behind us, and ALWAYS with us. When we dwell on our past, we say to God that Your sacrifice was not enough to take away my guilt, shame, and regret.

Here is Jesus’ advice. “Seek first My kingdom and My righteousness, and ALL these things will be given to you as well.” Seek Him, and He gives us “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23).

Let’s be a people that seek first His kingdom, and Jesus’ promise is He will meet all our needs.

Prayer: Jesus, if there was ever a time to turn to you, it is now. Help me to seek first your kingdom. Help me understand that my righteousness comes from you. Jesus you are enough. If all I have is You, I have all that I need. Be my rock. Help me draw from the strength that you provide. Give me peace. I need peace. I need to know your peace.
